Jaguar Land Rover North America is recalling several vehicles suffering from fuel leaks into their engine compartments.

The affected vehicles contain 2.0L gasoline engines with inconsistently brazed fuel rail end caps. These defective end caps are inconsistent and may not properly seal, allowing for both fuel vapor and liquid fuel leaks. Leaked liquid fuel can ignite if it strikes a hot engine surface, increasing fire risk.

The company opened an investigation on Nov.21, 2017 after receiving several customer complaints of excessive fuel odor in the passenger compartment. The company reviewed the fuel rail manufacturing process at Poland-based supplier Winkelmann SP and found the fuel rail end cap joints were inconsistently brazed and not to specification.

Jaguar engineers confirmed on Jan. 9, 2018 the defective fuel rail end cap joints as the leak source. Further testing determined fuel pressure in the insufficiently brazed joints can fatigue over time.

Jaguar Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel rail, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin March 23, 2018. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Jaguar Land Rover owners can also visit the NHTSA’s website and enter their VIN to see if their vehicle is included in any recalls.

Your vehicle’s manufacturer is legally required to fix any recalled problems for free. If the dealership refuses to fix the part or tries to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately. The Highway Safety Act of 1970, which created the NHTSA, requires car manufacturers to pay for the recall and replacement of a defective part.

If the manufacturer fails to repair, replace, repurchase, or provide your recalled vehicle’s loss value, they are violating the warranty and a lawyer may be able to assist you.

Lemon law attorneys help their clients by dealing directly with the manufacturer on the clients’ behalf, working to promptly resolve the issue and get their clients back on the road. Thanks to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, attorneys can seek their fees directly from the manufacturer, meaning a client can obtain legal counsel without having to pay attorneys’ fees directly out of pocket.
