LEMON LAW INFO FOR ,
Used Vehicle Lemon Law
You have probably heard of used vehicle lemon laws. Federal lemon laws apply to all types of vehicles and appliances, but we most often hear about these laws in relation to the purchase of vehicles. Every car needs repairs from time to time, but there is a difference between normal repair needs and a car that is a lemon. These laws were intended to help consumers who purchase vehicles that are frequently in need of repair during the manufacturer's warranty period. They most often apply to new vehicles, but they can sometimes apply to used cars or other used vehicles.
Every state has different regulations regarding the sale of vehicles that qualify as lemon laws, and each has a different definition of how much repair is needed to qualify a vehicle as a "lemon." Some states, in their laws, specify that only "new" vehicles are covered, while others say "any." If you feel that you have purchased a vehicle that needs excessive repairs, you should check the laws of your state to see if they apply.
Even if you do not meet the lemon law requirements under state law, Federal regulations may apply to some used vehicles. Federal regulations apply during manufacturer's warranty periods which last between two to five years depending on the manufacturer, but can continue in some circumstances several years after the warranty expires. Buying a manufacturer certified used car which comes with a limited warranty or the extended manufacturer's warranty if it is available may entitle you to the protection of the used vehicle Lemon Laws.
